The series is inspired by Richard Dawkins book “The Magic Of Reality” in particular the manner in which Dawkins’ book illuminates the everyday aspects of the natural world. Dawkins’ contrasts measurable phenomena against the myths and supernatural tales woven by various culture to explain the universe. The book is described as
“an accessible and wide-ranging volume that addresses the questions that all of us have about the universe, separating often too-little-known facts from too-frequently-believed fiction”
This self-portrait series and performances is revelatory experience that taps into the idea of myth and truth as a means of challenging the ways in which the viewer engages with the visible and imperceptible aspects of the physical domain. It also makes allusions to the often disputed issue of environmental change. An aspect of the changing times that has its’ fair share of myth-making, obfuscation, rhetoric and vitriol that shroud it in a cloak of folklore. The images and performance, hosted within natural spaces, poses questions around our overlapping ecosystems and realities in order to communicate a universal message.
“I wear a bodysuit and the globe over my head throughout the performance as an element in the immersive experience within natural environments to highlight and also challenge the viewer’s sense of reality. I seek to create a narrative around the potential near future transmutation of our environment based reality and how mother-earth is fighting back in reclamation.”
