Jenevieve Aken is a Nigerian photographer/ Story-teller whose photography career started in 2010. Her work focuses on social documentary photography, images and representation, and often she adopts self-portraiture in her artistic practice. She explores personal experiences and contemporary social issues of identity, sexuality, gender and social roles. Her works has been exhibited in museums and galleries across Africa, Europe, Asia, America and beyond.
She has undertaken an artist residency at National Museum of Modern And Contemporary Art Seoul, South Korea in 2018. A residency at the Villa Lena foundation in Tuscany, Italy in 2017, and a photography exchange program with LagosPhoto Festival in conjunction with Neue Schule Für Fotographie in Berlin, Germany in 2013.
In 2020, Jenevieve got awarded as a Winner at Wellcome photography prize in the “Hidden Worlds” Category, in London, United Kingdom. And a Fellowship award of the Philipp Otto Runge Foundation in conjunction with Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Germany in 2022.
Jenevieve lives and work in Manila, Philippines.
